How to fix it

Enter exactly one valid address without spaces, in UBL cbc:ElectronicMail in the seller contact, in CII ram:URIID of the EmailURIUniversalCommunication. At least two characters must stand before and after the @, and no dot at the start or the end.

Before – invalid
<cac:Contact>
  <cbc:Name>Accounting</cbc:Name>
  <cbc:Telephone>+49 30 1234560</cbc:Telephone>
  <cbc:ElectronicMail>invoice@ example.de; [email protected]</cbc:ElectronicMail>
</cac:Contact>
After – corrected
<cac:Contact>
  <cbc:Name>Accounting</cbc:Name>
  <cbc:Telephone>+49 30 1234560</cbc:Telephone>
  <cbc:ElectronicMail>[email protected]</cbc:ElectronicMail>
</cac:Contact>

What the message means

The seller contact of your invoice contains an e-mail address that does not look like one: it has no @ sign or several, a space or a dot right next to the @, or too few characters before or after it. The field is filled but useless for questions. XRechnung checks the form of the address with this rule so that the recipient does not write to an address that never arrives.

Common causes

  • Two addresses were written into one field with a comma or a semicolon.
  • A placeholder such as none, or a name without a domain, stands in the field.
  • A space before or after the @ sign remained after copying.

Frequently asked

Isn't the e-mail address a mandatory field anyway?

Yes. BR-DE-7 reads: „Das Element "Seller contact email address" (BT-43) muss übermittelt werden.“ BR-DE-28 only judges its form, and a malformed address is useless for questions.

Are umlauts or special characters allowed in the address?

The rule checks only the @ sign, its surroundings and dots at the edges. Other characters pass; whether the mail server accepts them is another question.

Fields concerned

  • BT-43
  • BG-6
