How a Leitweg-ID is structured

Coarse address - fine address - check digits

04011000-1234512345-06

Coarse address (Grobadressierung): 2 to 12 digits. The first two are the code of the German state (01 to 16) or of the federal level (99); then come the district, county and municipality codes of the official regional key.
Fine address (Feinadressierung): optional, up to 30 letters (A to Z) or digits. Without it, the Leitweg-ID has only one hyphen.
Check digits (Prüfziffer): two digits under ISO/IEC 7064 (MOD 97-10), computed over the coarse and fine address without hyphens, letters as A = 10 to Z = 35.

In an XRechnung the Leitweg-ID goes into the “Buyer reference” field (BT-10). The XRechnung validator only checks that the field is filled – not the Leitweg-ID itself.
